When I first woke up in Mumbai to sound of roosters crowing, I was surprised to say the least. This is a big city, a massive city, actually. It's not a farm! Until I saw that the roosters just chill out on the street, along with everyone else. It's a little bizarre. Now I usually wake up before the roosters crow in the morning because there is a man on my floor who has this weird ritual that he does to start the day. He makes this chanting noise that sounds like "Ayye-wahh" and then spits/gags/does something disguisting with his mouth. It's loud, it's odd, and it lasts for about 5 minutes every morning at 5:30ish. At least I don't have to worry about sleeping in!
